Foracort Rotacaps 400

🧪 What It Is

• A combination inhalation capsule containing:

  • Budesonide 400 µg (inhaled corticosteroid – ICS)

  • Formoterol 6 µg (long-acting β₂-agonist – LABA)

Delivered via a rotacap and rotahaler inhalation device.

✅ Uses

• Asthma: Maintenance therapy to prevent symptoms like wheezing, chest tightness, breathlessness, and coughing

• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): Treatment and symptom control in adults and children ≥6 years

Note: Not for acute asthma attacks—use a fast-acting “rescue” inhaler instead .

⚙️ How It Works

• Budesonide reduces airway inflammation.

• Formoterol relaxes bronchial muscles, widening airways.
  Together they improve airflow and control chronic respiratory symptoms

⏱️ Onset & Duration

• Formoterol provides relief within ~15 minutes, with effects lasting about 12 hours .

💉 Dosage & Administration

• One inhalation (capsule via rotahaler), twice daily, or as prescribed

• Ensure proper inhaler use: insert capsule in device, twist to pierce, inhale deeply, hold breath, then exhale

• Rinse mouth after use to prevent oral thrush

⚠️ Side Effects

Common side effects include:

• Oral thrush, cough, sore throat, hoarseness

• Headache, palpitations, tremor, increased heart rate

• Possible hypokalaemia (low potassium) and elevated blood sugar

⚕️ Precautions & Warnings

• Not suitable for:

  • Children under 6 years

  • Acute asthma exacerbations

  • Allergy to budesonide/formoterol or rotacap ingredients

  • Use with caution if you have:

  • Heart disease, high blood pressure

  • Osteoporosis, glaucoma, diabetes, liver issues

• Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: only if benefit outweighs risks; consult doctor
