Ciplox Eye/Ear Drops

✅ Uses

👁️ Eye

• Bacterial conjunctivitis (“pink eye”)

• Corneal ulcers (keratitis)
  Treat with 1–2 drops every 2 hours while awake for the first 2 days, followed by every 4 hours on days 3–7—for around 7 days total

👂 Ear

• Otitis externa (swimmer’s ear)

• Other external ear infections caused by Pseudomonas or Staphylococcus aureus
  Use 4–5 drops in the affected ear twice daily (12‑hourly) for 7 days, as single‑dose vials or bottle form

⚙️ How It Works

Ciprofloxacin blocks bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes, preventing DNA replication—effectively killing susceptible bacteria

📌 Dosage & Administration

Eye Drops

1–2 drops in the conjunctival sac at intervals recommended (see Uses).

Tips: Wash hands → pull down lower eyelid → instill drop → close eye and press tear duct to minimize drainage

Ear Drops

Warm vial (to body temperature), tilt head so the affected ear faces upward, instill 4–5 drops, and stay tilted for ~1 minute

Common mild side effects include:

• Burning or stinging

• Itching

• Transient blurred vision (eye) or ear discomfort

Precautions:

• Avoid use during viral or fungal infections.

• Do not use ear drops in eyes or vice versa.

• Do not touch dropper tip to avoid contamination

Serious reactions (rare): Allergic responses—rash, swelling, breathing trouble. Discontinue if they occur .

Pediatric use:

• Eye: Droplets are approved for most ages (ointment for children ≥2 yrs)

• Ear: Approved for children ≥1 year; safety under 1 not established .

Avoid contact lenses during treatment for conjunctivitis .
