Indications

Used for:

• Seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis (hay fever, dust or pet allergies)

• Chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives)

• Allergic reactions from skin (itching, rashes), conjunctivitis, insect bites, and sinus-related symptoms

Dosage & Administration

• Adults and children (age ≥6 years): one 10 mg tablet or capsule once daily, with or without food; many prefer bedtime due to possible drowsiness

• Not recommended for children under 6

Side Effects

Common (usually mild):

• Drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, nausea, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, sore throat
  Other possible effects include blurred vision, urinary retention, taste changes

Warnings & Precautions

• May cause drowsiness—caution advised when driving, operating machinery, or consuming alcohol

• Use with caution in individuals with severe kidney impairment—dose adjustments or avoidance advised

• In pregnancy or breastfeeding, consult doctor before use—cetirizine passes into breast milk

• Not habit-forming

Drug Interactions

• May enhance sedation if used with other depressants (e.g., alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids)

• Avoid combination with ritonavir and midodrine without medical advice
