Alciflox Eye/Ear Drops

A combined antibiotic–steroid formulation containing:

• Ciprofloxacin 0.3% w/v – a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic

• Dexamethasone 0.1% w/v – a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation

✅ Uses

👁️ Eye (Ophthalmic)

• Treats bacterial conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, and post-operative inflammation of the eye

👂 Ear (Otic)

• Effective for otitis externa (swimmer’s ear)

• Used in acute otitis media with ventilation (tympanostomy) tubes, especially when caused by bacteria like Staph. aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, etc.

⚙️ How It Works

• Ciprofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA replication to kill infection-causing bacteria.

• Dexamethasone reduces swelling, redness, and discomfort in the affected area.

💊 Dosage & Administration

For Eye:

• Instill 1–2 drops, every 4 hours, or as prescribed for up to 2 weeks

For Ear:

• Warm the bottle, tilt head so the affected ear is facing up.

• Instill 4 drops, typically twice daily, for about 7 days (or as directed)

⚠️ Precautions & Warnings

• Avoid use in suspected viral or fungal infections; it’s meant for bacterial cases only.

• Don’t touch the dropper tip to the eye or ear—risk of contamination.

• Remove contact lenses during treatment for eye infections.

• Temporary blurred vision post-instillation—avoid driving until clear.

• Not for use in infants under 1 year without doctor’s advice.

• Side effects: mild stinging, burning, itching, headache, ear discomfort, or dizziness
