This medication treats a broad range of fungal infections, including:

• Dermatophytoses (ringworm), onychomycosis (nail infections), and pityriasis versicolor

• Vulvovaginal candidiasis and oral thrush

• Invasive and systemic mycoses like blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, aspergillosis, and cryptococcal infections .

How It Works

Itraconazole works by inhibiting the fungal 14α-demethylase enzyme, disrupting ergosterol synthesis—an essential component of fungal cell membranes—leading to cell death. It is effective against both yeasts and molds

Dosage & Administration

• Available as capsules (200 mg); typically taken with food to enhance absorption

• Duration depends on infection type:

  • Skin/athlete’s foot: ~2–4 weeks

  • Nail or systemic infections: months-long therapy

• Always complete the full course—even if symptoms improve—to prevent relapse or resistance
